The Fruits of the Spirit

Julie loved fall colors: Burgundys, Rusts and Golds. We’ve done the Burgundy and Rust flowers, let’s begin on the Gold ones! My color recipes are shown above: #1. Two shades of Cadmium Yellow Medium + Cadmium Orange. #2. A couple of mixes of Cadmium Yellow Medium + Cadmium Orange + a touch of Alizarin Crimson + a little MUD (2 parts Ultramarine Blue + 1 part Alizarin Crimson). #3. Pthalo Blue + Cadmium Yellow Medium. #4. Two mixtures of #3 + White.

The flowers are blocked in first. You may click on any of the images to see them larger.

Followed by the leaves.

Since there are two PEACE Bookmarks, I add a Hummingbird to the second.

A Painted Lady Butterfly, one of my personal favorites just because of the name, flits in to highlight our SELF-CONTROL Bookmark!

The KINDNESS Bookmark will be given to Dottie. She and her Aunt Julie had a special fondness for the uniquely shaped leaves of the Ginkgo Biloba Tree. I decided to include some of the fruit that fits right in with our color scheme.

And since all of our other Bookmarks have flowers I add some Ginkgo blossoms. Normally, they are more creamy colored than I’m painting them. Taking artistic liberty, I’ve selected a soft Lavender so they will show up against the white background.

A Monarch floats in to complete the composition.

We’re almost finished. All that’s left to do is pull off the tape!

Here goes…….

Now we’re DONE!!!! So that’s how I paint 10 paintings all at once. As soon as these are completely dry, I’ll cut them apart and our 10 Bookmarks will be finished. Thank you for following along. Hope you’ll come back to my studio to see what’s up on my easel next!
