Hey fellow oil painters. I have a piece I’m working on and had used Scotch/3M Artist Tape for Curves (https://www.dickblick.com/products/scotch-artist-tape-for-curves/) on a portion to mask a shape. I’ve since painted over an area where the tape used to be and curiously, the paint is not drying in the areas where the tape was laid down, in a perfect stripe/line. I use Weber Res-N-Gel and M. Graham Walnut Alkyd Medium to hasten drying time. The paint has set overnight in other areas and over the taped area is still extremely tacky, basically wet like I just laid it down. This is my second time painting over the area ( removed/painted over the wet area after waiting several days), this time with more dry time quickener…still tacky. Has anyone had this issue with this tape or any others? I suppose there might be something in the tape residue that prevents oxidation of the mediums and oils? But I am concerned, I assume at SOME point it will cure but…it hasn’t happened yet.
