About this piece for those who are interested: I painted this as an allegory about how often the opportunity to grow and become who we want to be in life is closer than we expect. Sometimes it lies right behind us, but unfortunately, we miss it because we just aren’t looking in the right direction, or we’re looking down, or our eyes are shut. For a long time, I thought I could never make a career out of being an artist and stopped looking for opportunities to make a living doing what I love, so I painted this to remind myself to never give up and keep looking for opportunities to turn my passion into a livelihood.
This painting was also heavily inspired by the song “Je me moi” song by Louis-Jean Cormier, the photography of Ben Sasso, and the modeling of Taylor Lashae.
This oil on canvas is 48 X 36 inches and took about six months to finish painting (I probably spent a straight month working on it but had other projects I also had to complete.)
