I varnished this oil painting with Gamvar, it dried with a ton of dead, uneven sunken in spots. I removed the Gamvar with Gamsol and “oiled out” the painting with a small amount of refined linseed oil. This seems to have helped slightly, but there are still some awful sunken dead spots that I can’t seem to get out. I’m afraid to revarnish as I don’t think the painting can handle another varnish removal and it’s a long awaited commission. How can I get it even so my gloss varnish will go on evenly without sinking in?
Note – this photo is with only linseed oil, I have not revarnished as of yet!!
