r/oilpainting – I painted my first ever oil painting ever today! It’s not the best but I loved making it. Followed along to “Night Light” by Bob Ross. Would love to do another so tips/critique appreciated!

ugh… ignore my multiple evers in the title, I was very excited! The episode of bob ross I learned this with is called Night Light (S3E8). There was an online guide to pick out which color paints I needed.

I haven’t really done anything artistic since high school so this felt really great. Previously my experience was with pencils and inkwash so it was different to work with colors!

I learned the very basics of oil painting in art class in high school but never moved beyond painting a cube. I did attempt an oil painting a few years ago but I gave up so this truly is my first.

I felt like bob ross paintings were a good start because they aren’t super complicated and don’t take that long. I definitely want to paint more so please let me know any tips or things I can do better/different next time! I just found this subreddit today so I’m combing through posts to pick out some good tips.
